Tuesday 27th July 2010, Shenstone

Another encouraging visit to the patch this evening was met with a sighting of 2 juvenile Corn Buntings (and 1 adult) on the fence wires near to one of the known territories. Also of note were a flock of 13 Mistle Thrushes in Heath Lane paddock and a ♀ Kestrel at Butts lane. A Common Tern was over Captain's Pool at 8:30pm.

    Great bird to have on your patch Jason. I dont think any corn buntings will be gracing my patch in the next 100years :-(

    Its one of only a few places left in Worcestershire where they still breed. The population around Shenstone is fairly small but stable with average winter flocks of 15-20 birds. Last week I counted 7 singing males on territory around the patch.

    I love the song of the Corn Bunting, I have to travel a long way to hear it though.
