Apologies.....

My apologies for the infrequency of posts at the moment.  I still have a couple of entries to post but have had a fairly rough week due to the declining health of our elderly dog (Danny).  Having been to the vets last week we are now in a position where it will be kinder to say goodbye to him soon, so we are making the most of every shared moment with him.  Obviously something has to give and in this case its been birding and the blog.

However I will still be going out birding where possible over the coming weeks and posting on the blog now and then...so please do check back.

Cheers
Jason

  1. Sorry that your dog, Danny, it will be lonesome with Danny gone.

  2. I'm so sorry to read this, Jason. As I have probably mentioned before I absolutely adore dogs and know only too well from experience how very difficult it is when you reach this stage and that however many times it happens it never, ever gets any easier. Sometimes though, to make the decision you are facing is the kindest thing you can do for them even though it is heartbreaking for you.

Danny looks a lovely chap. Just remember that as a rescue dog he has had a loving and happy home to live out his days thanks to you and Bev.

  3. So sorry to hear your news Jason. I think those of us who have been there will fully understand how you and Bev are feeling.

Thoughts and best wishes to you all.

  6. Thanks all for your kind words.

It isnt totally unexpected due to his age and ongoing problems with his heart. After a discussion with the vet we have decided that when his current medication runs out (approx 3 weeks time) we will say goodbye to the old fella. His back legs are also getting weaker and he struggles to stand at times. His mind and spirit are still willing but his body is less so.

Still unless he deteriates rapidly then we get to share a few more weeks with him and we will know that he had a good last few years with us

  7. Sorry to hear this Jason - as the owner (and loser) of several dogs over the last 20+ years i feel for you. Enjoy what time you have with him. I have 2 Staffies having lost their Mother a year or so ago - having 2 of her pups did help soften the blow......sort of! You take their presence for granted and then they are gone, leaving a void.

Best of luck and enjoy time with him.
